Giuseppe Joseph Petrosino a true American NYPD hero who was the first NYPD hero to lose his life in the line of duty. After visiting the historic building that was once an active precinct you can walk across to the other side of Lower Manhattan and visit the NYPD Memorial where you can see his name honored with so many courageous souls that have lost their lives in the line of duty.

1,850 homes were demolished in 1967 as part of the Seward Park Urban Renewal Area - with the promise that new affordable housing would be built on these enormous tracts of land in the heart of the Lower East Side. After thousands were displaced, the affordable housing was never built.
42 YEARS HAVE PASSED, AND WE'RE STILL WAITING FOR THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING!
On the site where thousands once lived in a vibrant community - there are five enormous open-air parking lots. These sites could be used for 2,000 units of affordable housing for low-income New Yorkers and community facilities for the neighborhood, while the construction of the site and affordable commercial spaces built in them could provide much needed living-wage jobs.

Parachute Performance Festival What: The first annual literary and performance festival in Coney Island Where: New York City Aquarium, West 8th Street. When: Saturday and Sunday, September 12th and 13th at 6:30pm Coney Island has always hosted a magnificent array of performance: a naked Walt Whitman read Shakespeare to the Atlantic Ocean; Cary Grant walked on stilts at Steeplechase Park; Woody Guthrie strummed his guitar on Mermaid Avenue; the Bread and Puppet Theatre was in residence in the 1970s; and Coney Island USA has been a theatrical fixture for nearly thirty years. The Parachute Performance Festival continues this tradition. This free poetry workshop will feature a wide array of established and up-and-coming Brooklyn-based poets and writers. Highlights include poet Patricia Spears Jones, John Ventimiglia from the Sopranos reading Henry Miller's words on Coney Island, Eileen Myles (named by BUST magazine as "the rock star of modern poetry") and the former Brooklyn Poet Laureate, Dennis Nurkse. |

I happily posted this email and you may see me there celebrating having made it to 47 years old wearing a very tight t shirt that says Vote for Tony Avella for Mayor! Hi Suzannah, I would like to ask you if you could blog on the 7th annual Musical Saw Festival in NYC, please, where an attempt to break the Guinness World Record of the 'Largest Musical Saw Ensemble' will be conducted. The current record, set in Poland last year, is 27 musical saw players. Will we set a new record in NYC on July 18th? The art form of making music with a carpenter's handsaw has been around for 300 years, but has become almost forgotten since the 1930's. The festival set up to make sure this unique art form does not disappear. For the past 7 years Astoria (Queens) became a pilgrimage spot for musical saw players from all over the world. In past years musical saw players from China, Japan, India, Germany, Canada and all over the USA participated. The festival, which is supported by the Queens Council on the Arts, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and the NY State Council on the Arts, includes a concert, an art exhibit and a workshop - all centered around the musical saw, of course. "Children's Magical is hosting Make Music New York in the Garden on June 21st, the Summer Solstice. There is a great line-up of free, acoustic, family friendly bands that will be playing from 11 AM-8:30 PM. We need more volunteers to be there for 3 shifts: 11-2, 2-5:30, 5:30-8:30/9 (make sure we are closed at dark). It should be tons of fun. My Dad told me there was a newspaper strike and in those days Sunday papers had the funnies, the cartoons, since the papers were on strike he would read the children the funny papers. My Dad says he was an outstanding person... He would run to all the fires!!!!!!!!! He rushed to see what was going on. The economic times were terrible, my Dad reminisced.

Mike Bloomberg's streets of NY, see link from NY1 water main break 2 years ago but problems keep arising
Watch my two youtubes on Bloomberg's streets of new york and just this block which you can see on NY1 and the next block which you see in my 2 youtubes seem to be busting open again and again...why is that?
Also giving every perk imaginable and unimaginable to developers who lay down knew infrastructure but connected it to old delipidated infrastructure over supersize so high with heavy trucks and equipment and construction rattling old pipes it is no surprise we have had so many water main breaks, man hole explosions gas leaks etc.
That was why I wanted DEP, DOB and Con Ed to name 3 alone to tell the mayor slow down.
In an ideal world you would make the developers slow down and put infrastructure improvements first but Bloomberg's reckless tsunami of rapid development put speed, supersizng and greed first and the good news for greedy developers is many infrastructure and construction accidents displaced more people which makes room for their greed they refer to as "progress".
See my youtubes on infrastructure -- there are many and my longest one quotes my letter published in AM NY "Destroying 'old' New York" and than William Yardley's in The New York Times that came out after mine but both were before the infrastructure break by Grand Central that did resemble a terror attack, a possibility mentioned in Yardley's piece.
