Richard Sandler 80’s When Greed Was Good post by Suzannah B. Troy artist

http://lightbox.time.com/2011/08/03/richard-sandlers-80s-when-greed-was-good/#1

I would always see Richard filming around the neighborhood and we love Angelica’s for great Vegetarian food....great to see his work featured in Time Light Box....

Here is my review of his film from Amazon

5.0 out of 5 stars Gods of Times Square on the money, foreshadows the death of 'old' New York for shopping mall nycDecember 29, 2007
This review is from: The Gods of Times Square (DVD)
I saw this film when it first came out and I thought it was powerful but now looking back, Richard Sandler's film has grown in importance because post-Sept. 11, under a billionaire mayor and a multi-millionaire socialite city planner came a tsunami of community crushing development mostly all for the mega rich and a kind of shopping mall chain story retail explosion city wide punctuated with banks on every street corner that has robbed NYC of it's soul and originality.

There are grey tones. Do I appreciate feeling safe walking down the streets of Time Square and elsewhere in the city? Yes!!! What Richard Sandler shows us is the make-over and take-over by corporations and I understand some of the positives in terms of a cleaner, safer more pleasant city but ultimately what I didn't realize at the time was that film maker had his pulse on was the end of a kind of dynamism and edginess that made NYC what it is. It seems now that we can't have the best of both worlds and my neighborhood (East Village/Bowery/Lower East Side now looks like a bad xerox of midtown even resembling Time Square)thanks to mayor Mike Bloomberg.

Now we have generic chains stores through out the city and every neighborhood looks the same. Only bars, banks and Starbuck like chain stores can afford this "new city" that under the Bloomberg administration brought sky piercing luxury condos and hotels mostly all for the mega rich reflecting a history destroyed and communities no longer welcome.

Richard Sandler "got it" before any of us and he does leave a lot of grey tones for you to come to your on conclusions. Well done. Time to do another masterful documentary..."Welcome to the "new" hideous New York.

Suzannah B. Troy Fox News Channel Dow Down Deficit Up!

What a day, the heat was unbearable, changed in to a dress, as close to portable air conditioning as I could dream about as I walked with a friend from the MOMA to Times Square.

We past Fox News Channel....all quiet no mention of the hacking scandal but the news the Dow was down was flashing for all to see.

The deficit ceiling went up and that is disastrous news as we see more hospitals closes and small business yet no bail outs.

If only we had not let Hank Paulson broker the most corrupt deal ever abusing or should I say stealing tax payer money to bail out people and institutions that should not and protecting them from 1) arrest and 2) not paying back the tax payers as many got multi-million dollar bonuses and enjoy health insurance and luxuries even more American cannot afford let alone dream about.

Suzannah B. Troy Artist Beautiful Art Painted on The Streets of NYC

I bought this art work to support this woman’s efforts.  She did not give me her name.  I asked her may I photograph you. The artwork is entitled “Tree” and she kissed the art, a loving gesture like a beautiful prayer she infused in to the art.

If you look to the left you can see her paint brushes.  She clearly struggles as we all do but out on the streets it is public yet she makes beautiful art.

There are posers galore in New York but here is authenticity no computer tweaking or hiding behind cameras just her talent and paint.

She started painting 7 years ago.  She can find her by Barnes and Nobles at 6th Avenue and 8th Street.

Mayor Bloomberg Being There Meets The Dawn of the DEAD! NYers Wake The FREAK Up! Biggest White Collar Crime CIty Hall EVER! How about Biggest Pay Back including Damages EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://no-third-term.blogspot.com/2011/07/st-vincents-document-shredding.html

Dear Blogger Readers:  I was contacted with this information!

They are asking Judge Cecilia G. Morris to be allowed to destroy documents… and no doubt she will grant their request.  What does it mean “no longer needs to be preserved”…

Heard on the street... I asked my source are the documents shredded.  He responded, no, not yet, but the Judge has always given hospital management and the Rudin family everything they wanted so it is a no brainer the documents will be shredded.

I asked, isn’t that illegal?  Isn’t that destroying evidence.

Most New Yorkers feel the courts protect the rich and powerful developers and landlords at expense of the people and that to even attempt to get justice you need as much money as they have which is shocking and disturbing.

Stay tuned more on this to be reported.   Yetta Kurland who leads the Community Coalition that is fighting for a new hospital for the West Village alerted us last night to this shocking new scandal.

David Regelin Best NYC Urban Yoga Filmed on Iphone! Suzannah Goes to David’s Juice Bar

I went to see Melvin, Juice Scientist, at Life Thyme on 6th Avenue because I figured I am unable to do what David Regelin does Yoga wise but I can drink a green drink like he does....tee, hee.

I ordered Green Champagne by Melvin and took photos of a very unique New Yorker, unique in a very different way than David Regelin.  Melvin told me it can get very crowded so you can call ahead and order your drink.

I love David’s YouTubes....check them out...they are posted in YouTubeland....

I pushed my body to every extreme possible with basketball, running and karate and over eating....I once weighed 190 pounds and I still haven’t recovered from that obesity blast in college...unhappy days....
and I hated stretching of any kind and did not “get yoga” until very recently but my yoga doesn’t quite get me.

Not David Regelin but a wonderful W. Village character....
thank goodness NYC has a few quirks and quirky people left under Bloomberg NYC lost it’s soul...
sorry to be such a sad sack but it is true.
Highly recommend drinking green drinks, veggie drinks raw.....

Jennifer Moore under age and drinking, like Imette  and the NYPD Rape Victim she walked out on her own sadly and unlike the NYPD rape victim she did not live to tell her story, to have a life, too grow old.
Sickening to have Tacopina representing Imette. Imette would object if she was alive but she died a horrific death nothing as awful as the NYPD Rape Victim including Joe Tacopina and Chad Seigel’s treatment of her.

Thanks for your beautiful hard work.  There are so  many other photos.

There is Tish James and I wish I had captured her speech.  It was fantastic!  I tell you briefly about it on my YouTube.

Laura Garza  Today’s protest was about stopping the violence but they Women left us too soon and in the most horrific of ways I wanted to honor their memories

Yu Yao’s name is on my shirt many places and on both arms....unlike the other women she was not out drinking....she was just walking and was randomly grabbed by her hair and dragged in to an alley way, rape and murdered.   She is the most recent victim of a  violent rape and murder  that I am aware of.

NOT DEAD YET brings a dramatic new perspective to a range of women’s issues rarely embraced by American cinema.

Three women join forces to revive their acting careers, only to find themselves on a quest for something far more important.  Frustrated by the lack of roles for women over 40, they decide to create their own film, starring themselves.  As the project spins out of control, so do their lives.

SUSAN HESS LOGEAIS
Prior to leaving the entertainment industry in 1990, Logeais had accomplished in 15 years what few people achieve in a lifetime. Beginning at the age of 17, the classically-trained ballerina spent a year performing with the Santa Francisco Ballet under Artistic Director Michael Smuin.

Then, in 1978, the teen began a seven-year stint during which she graced over a dozen magazine covers.  In 1984, Logeais scaled back her modeling to pursue her passion: acting. During the years that followed, she co-starred in four network television movies, a Sidney Sheldon mini-series for CBS, and episodes of “Miami Vice,” “Knightwatch,” “Spencer: For Hire,” and “Christine Cromwell.”

Finally, after years of being in front of audiences and the camera, Logeais decided to step behind the lens, and began learning the craft of screenplay writing. At the same time, she formed her own production company, Two Chicks with Cameras, and co-directed and produced a series of short films.

Then in 1992, her body rejected the breast implants she had gotten 8 ½ years earlier. Realizing how she had unwittingly inspired other women to follow her example, she convinced Allure magazine to chronicle her surgery and recovery. In addition, she appeared on a local LA television program to share her story.

Teaming up with local talent and crew, she produced her screenplay “Not Dead Yet”.  Her goal in producing the film was threefold; to see one of her screenplays produced; to star in a feature film; and to produce a story that would encourage women over 40 to embrace themselves and the wisdom their age represents.

“Not Dead Yet” was completed in early 2009 and has since screened at numerous film festivals, winning Best Feature at the Rhode Island International Film Festival and at the Baltimore Women’s Film Festival.  Subsequent projects include a short documentary entitled “Nerves of Steel, a year with The Portland Ballet,” which she recently completed; “Clay In Their Hands,” a documentary focusing on the importance of valuing women and children that is in production; and “The Emerald Tree,” an illustrated short story that is in development.

JENNIFER L. POZNER
Jennifer L. Pozner is founder and executive director of Women In Media & News (WIMN), a media analysis, education and advocacy group. She is also managing editor of WIMN’s Voices, the popular group blog on women and the media. Her book, Reality Bites Back: The Troubling Truth About Guilty Pleasure TV (Seal Press, Nov. 1, 2010), grew out of WIMN’s media analysis program.

A widely published journalist, Jennifer serves on the board of editors of In These Times magazine. Her work has appeared in corporate media outlets such as Newsday, Chicago Tribune and the Boston Phoenix, independent magazines such as Ms. magazine, The American Prospect, and Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture, and online media such as WomensEnews, AlterNet, and Salon, among others. Her essays have appeared in numerous anthologies. Additionally, she has served as an adviser for and has been featured in several documentary films, including “I Was a Teenage Feminist” and “Miss Representation.”

Jennifer has appeared as a media commentator on NBC, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, ABC News Now, GRITtv, Democracy Now!, National Public Radio, and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” And, because she’s a sucker for punishment, she’s gone head to head with some of the most blustery boys of cable news, including Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Joe Scarborough.

A noted lecturer, Jennifer has spoken on women, media, politics and pop culture at more than eighty colleges across the country, on topics ranging from portrayals of women in reality television, to gender and race biases in journalistic coverage of elections, to media coverage of war, poverty and natural disasters. She conducts media literacy workshops and media trainings for women’s groups, youth, and social justice organizations.

In 2009, she was recognized as one of the New Leaders Council “40 Under 40” progressive leaders in America. In 2007, Soroptimist International of NYC honored her with their “Making A Difference for Women” Award. Still, her favorite award remains her 2006 inclusion “The Real Hot 100,” a Girls In Government project honoring young women leaders making change in their communities. Forbes named Jennifer one of “20 Inspiring Women To Follow On Twitter” in 2010. Later that year, she was amused to find her non-profit activist self alongside Tyra Banks, Martha Stewart and Vera Wang on BizTech Day’s list of “25 Influential Business Women in New York City You Should Follow on Twitter.”

FB Event Page for this:  http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=152703848134161  --  PLEASE SHARE.

Hello everyone,

While there is strong confidence about our position, the Senate is playing games on scheduling a vote.

The request has come from inside to build the pressure for the VOTE TO HAPPEN.

CALL AND PUSH THE VOTE:

CALL:  SENATOR SKELOS' Office (majority leader):  (518) 455-3171.
Please be strong, but polite:   "I'm calling to urge the Senate to bring Marriage Equality to a vote today.  Please stop the delays, and let the vote take place."
Add what you wish, but please do not get threatening, or use abusive language.
If you're in his district, feel free to vigil, or call there:
55 Front Street, Rockville CentreNY 11570;   (516) 766-8383.

ALBANY VIGIL TONIGHT:

If the vote doesn't happen today, there will be a VIGIL starting at 6 p.m. outside the State House, supported by MENY.
Bring candles, signs, passion.

SENATE CHAMBER STANDING WATCH:
Everyone is invited to GO TO ALBANY NOW and stand inside by the Senate Chamber.
Wear ME tea-shirts, bring small signs (not too big).   Handlers will be on site.

ACCOMMODATIONS & TRANSPORTATION:
We're on our own.  The state house is open all night, so sleeping bags, etc. is an option.
Keep an ear out for last minute updates and news.  It could happen this afternoon, Friday at the latest (i.e., no plans to stay the weekend).

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD.   WE'RE ALMOST THERE.   LET'S PUSH IT OVER THE FINISH LINE.

MARRIAGE EQUALITY NOW!

Tif

LGBT Marriage Equality counter Protest City Hall Tues in Response to Extremist Religous Group

A group of extremist and right-wing religious organisations are holding a press conference on Tuesday, June 14 from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm on the steps of New York City Hall.

These extremist groups are asking all believers in the Lord to join in a day of fasting and prayer to invoke ''divine intervention'' to prevent the passage of Marriage Equality in New York State. For more information about the religious event, please visit : http://www.goodasyou.org/good_as_you/2011/06/nyc-another-anti-gay-rally-another-civil-marriagepersonal-faith-obfuscation.html

Connecting Rainbows, an LGBT civil rights group, is inviting all community groups, activists, and allies to join us -- and to spread the word to others -- about a counter demonstration that supporters of Marriage Equality are holding at the same time and at the same place : on Tuesday, June 14 at 11:30 a.m. on the steps of New York City Hall !

Connecting Rainbows is asking for a similar and powerful coälition of Marriage Equality groups to show up -- and to send a message that these religious organisations should be protecting the sanctity of LGBTQ lives, too. We are each somebody, and we each deserve full equality.

Join the growing number of voices, who are saying that Gov. Cuomo should pull out all the stops -- and get marriage equality passed through the state legislature. (LGBT New Yorkers, who have faith or who follow a different spiritual journey, should not be the targets of religious rhetoric.)

Yetta Kurland Petitions Delivered to Attorney General Eric Schneiderman

Dear Neighbor,

I just returned from an exciting trip to deliver over 7,000 of your signatures to our Attorney General Eric Schneiderman this morning to ask that he join in our community’s efforts to block the sale of St. Vincent’s to the Rudins unless and until the plan includes a hospital.  I just want to personally thank you for the time you took to sign the petition, to circulate it to others and help in tabling to get others’ signatures.  Below is a picture that I hope will make you understand how important your work was and how greatly it is appreciated.

Now, I hope you will join me tonight for the CB2 meeting at 6:30pm at the Village Community School on W. 10th Street and Greenwich, where the Rudins are attempting to move forward with efforts to turn St. Vincent’s into luxury condos.

In fact, documents that have recently surfaced, and which I attach here (see below), seem to make clear that not only have the Rudins not gotten all the approvals they need, the approvals they do have require them to build a hospital at the site and these approvals cannot now be transferred for a different plan to build luxury condominiums and an urgent care center.

Hope to see you tonight.
